BT Infinity

Does anyone know about the BT Infinity product? I am moving house soon and did a broadband speed check and got this:

No plans for BT Infinity (not a cabled area) in the next 6 months, but there seems to be no way of checking if it will ever arrive. Are BT doing Fibre to the Cabinet nationwide or is it just the bigger areas?

Going back to Stoneage broadband is not going to be nice, LOL

Have you tried Talk Talk? I was with BT and getting barely 1Mb - said I was too far from their exchange that needed upgrading. Talk Talk said the same but installed a new 8Mb exchange within 3 weeks. That was 6 years ago and BT still haven't upgraded their exchange. I've found that newer companies moving into areas put the latest kit in right from the start rather than the likes of established companies that have to upgrade.

Might give them a try... the area is LLU for TalkTalk/Sky/Orange/AOL, so it is a possibility. Might have to canvas the neighbours and find out what speeds people are getting.

I've got infinity. Took the engineer five minutes to change the faceplate on the master plug and hook up the modem. I get a steady 4MB/s (that's megabytes, not bits!) down and around 1MB/s up. I've only had it around a month or so but can thoroughly recommend it so far.

They are committed to fibre to the cab nationwide, they just have certain thresholds that need to be passed (similar to how they rolled out rural DSL) before they upgrade each exchange/cab.

Yeah, I have done a bit of research and it seems the Knaresborough exchange doesn't have FTTC yet, which probably explains why there are no big green boxes near where I am moving to. I'd imagine the exchange will be upgraded at some point and then it will start to appear in the surrounding areas.

I have had this for a few months as my area was one of the first roll outs! Get consistant 38meg (40 meg line so far, but set to increase soon).

Recommend taking a screen print using http://www.speedtest.net/ to undertake a before & after just to make sure you're getting what you paid for.

I have it. Download speed is always over 26MB, and upload speed is 7MB min.
26Mb, 7Mb. There are 8 bits in a byte. MB is the acronym for megabyte, Mb is the acronym for megabit. Connections are always quoted in megabit for historical reasons.

Yes, I am a nerd.

i have the virgin 100meg service and its insanely quick..... shame the customer serive is so bad!!! the superhub modem is Very unreliable imo, its been touted as the best modem out their but imo its not worth all the hype, i can tell you its a very very fast connection, overall im reasonibly happy, it things decline i will definatly be cancelling.....

After going through all the hastle of having my house rigged for Firbre optic im still out on judgement whether it was worth all the palarva

This may be of use:

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2011/06/14/bt_fibre_rollout_66_exchanges/

It lists the exchanges that are next due to be upgraded. Thankfully mine is on there so I can get out of the stone age (don't even get enough speed to listen to iplayer radio!)

I have had loads of issues with the wireless hub hanging up, they have now replaced it with the new 3.0 hub which is supposed to be more stable.

Hmmm...my Hub 3.0 has been a right pain...have had to disable 'n' capability to get it stable (possible issue with some none 'n' devices on the metwork causing it to kick off, Squeezebox kit in my case should anyone else have the issue). That said my internet connection is appallingly slow anyway and even FLAC music files stream quite happily at b/g speeds so it's not an issue - just took a while to diagnose!

I've recently moved house and can no longer get cable.

With Sky I'm getting a whopping 800k.

I asked the BT engineer when Infinity would be installed and he said that they are doing Holmfirth now then would be rolling out to the rest of Huddersfield after that (but couldn't give a timescale).

I'd be better with mobile BB if it wasn't for the FUP.
