BT audio options

I need to set up bluetooth audio from my Android phone. I have seen that Tune2Air looks to be a popular option, but this seems to be geared towards Apple products. Given that I'm using Android I assume I won't be able to use the features like song info on the car display and steering wheel controls.

If this is true then with Tune2Air I'm paying for functionality that I'll never be able to use. If all I need is a quality/reliable adapter that comes on with the car and connects to the phone straight away, is there something cheaper that does the same job?

Just look for Bluetooth receivers that support A2DP on Amazon. They plug into the aux jack and some can be powered by usb.

Having had 2 Tune2Air adaptors and using them both with Apple and Android phones all I can say is that they are great.
It is true that only Apple phones will display the song title etc on the radio screen, but the steering wheel buttons will work with both Apple and Android.
I simple had my phone on a bracket on the centre vents so I could see what was playing, as in the photo attached.
They aren't cheap compared to the simple bluetooth adaptors but you do have control of your music.

You could always go the full hog and buy an android touchscreen add-on for your current headunit... see my signature below

I've seen your thread on the head unit group buy and this is definitely something I would consider, but just not at the moment with cash going out on a couple of other projects around the house.

For now I've gone with Gadgetjunky's suggestion and ordered an Amazon el-cheapo unit to see how I get on. I'm fine with using the phone as the controller, I mostly use Amazon music which is voice controlled anyway, or audible which just needs the play button pressing once at the start of each journey.

May I suggest using Android Auto on your phone then, it keeps the screen "live" all the time (there is a setting within it to do this) and as long as your phone is being charged it'll use no power. I know it works with both Amazon Music and Audible without any problem, this way you'll also have the option for it to read out text messages (and Facebook Messenger ones) as you receive them and give you the chance to reply via speak-to-text so you are fully handsfree. This'll also do sat-nav and phone calls as well.
The photo I posted above (quite old now as I've changed it all) was using Android Auto via a Bluetooth adaptor (not Tune2Air), it was on a Qi charger cradle so I didn't have to plug it in all the time just place it on.

As for the Group Buy, if there is enough interest I'll run it again, but in the meantime you are more than welcome to ask anything about it if the temptation gets the better of you  :D
