I'm starting to get to know my new M quite well now, and i'm noticing some of it's litte foibles.

I wanted to know if the transmission thunk noise/jerk is entirely normal? Is this the CDV? It's really quite prominent on my car under even moderate acceleration, and when (eg) going from 2nd into neutral on the way to 3rd.

Audible thunks while changing gears at slow to moderate speeds is probably normal. Mine does too. Also the differential is a bit noisy at car park speeds. The jerkiness is a combination of the CDV and probably your relative unfamiliarity with the drivetrain's idiosyncrasies. You get used to it soon and will be much smoother. Removing or replacing the CDV also helps.

The gearbox jerks and bangs all the time - regardless of the CDV.

It's a big clunky thing and is right next to you, it has to handle dumping 340bhp through it, so it's allowed to make the odd noise 8)

Don't worry... you won't notice after a little while.
