Broken Z4

Its a sad day

My z4 was whisked away to the garage on the back of a truck today after it failed to start this morning. Engine management light is on and all I am getting when turning the key is a whirring noise. Here's hopeing it is just a starter moter issue or something and no more serious. :(

I was looking forwrd to the drive to work as well as I have not used the car much at the weekend.

Sounds like the solenoid that pushes the starting cog wheel onto the flywheel cog wheel just isn't working to me.

I know it sounds a bit cliche, but a tap with a hammer may well have resolved that issue!

Hopefully it just needs greasing/freeing up a bit :)

Do you drive it often?

Iirc, doesn't the engine management light only clear once the engine has succesfully started? (ie, sounds like there is no major fault)

Mine did not start a while back either. Turned out that the dealer had forgot to connect the fuel gauge, so it was just out of fuel... Hope you will get it back soon :(

:? Why would the gauge stop it from working?.........Do you mean fuel pump?

Hehe, that would cause much head scratching with me!

The fuel gauge sender sounds like it was disconnected, or the gauge in the dash, either way, it sounds like the car ran out of fuel and so wouldn't start. Simple diagnosis, refuel the car. Tough part is knowing it was out of fuel to start with :D

Drum roll............. The coil pack is goosed!

I have the BREMI coils and a nice reliable Bosch set is being fitted this morning.

It seems there has been a few posts on this recently, seems the BREMI parts are giving up the ghost in numbers now.

Hopefully have the Z4 back this afternoon :driving:

Ahhh, so the engine was turning, and so making a whirring noise...

That wouldn't be the starter then :)

I'm glad it was something relatively 'consumeable' that had gone anyway. Can't argue with that really.
