Broken Wing Mirror Glass

Afternoon guys

Ok so I get back to the car yesterday evening at a public car park to find the passenger side mirror at an angle & the glass hanging out. Oh dear that's a shame I say to myself :headbang: (edited for public posting).

Anyway, thankfully the casing & electric motor etc are all fine, not even a scratch, however the mirror glass itself has totally come off (in one piece). It almost looks as tho it was glued onto the heated pad behind it?

Could anyone advise if this can be glued back onto the 'pad' and if so what with? Bearing in mind the glue needs to withstand the heating... If not it'll be a trip to the Indy that I could do without paying for at the moment! :?

I'm sorry I can't offer any advice, but just wanted to let you know that your "public" editing made me laugh! :rofl:
 
Yep, the glass falling out is common. I used a 2 part epoxy and taped it in place until dry. Been fine so far.

I bought a new mirror off eBay for £10 I think. Came with a sticky pad on the back, 2mins later it was sorted.

Do a quick search and you'll find loads of extra info :thumbsup:

Some use araldite (me included), others have used other strong glues (like evostick), pads and silicon. I would recommend the epoxy as I've used it on 3 wing mirrors (2 beetles and a zed) and all with complete success, no problems with heating or moisture. :thumbsup:
 
OK, my driver's side mirror started to wobble today - a gentle pull and out it came. Perhaps the hot weather may be affecting the glue, that's two in that past couple of months. Would recommend everyone check theirs...

Stuck it back in with some araldite, can't see it falling out again for a while. :thumbsup:
