Broken trim… what’s the part?

Sorry, not the most exciting of threads but hoping someone experienced will know the answer (or where to look for it!)…

I’m trying to neaten up my E85 for sale and noticed that the plastic black trim at the very edge of the boot is cracked. Is it replaceable? Not clear how it comes off and is refitted - any thoughts?

Thanks

The below may help, unsure on your model spec

https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=BZ12-EUR-01-2008-E85-BMW-Z4_20i&diagId=51_5958

I think that’s the top edge of the bumper carrier, but I’ve not taken mine apart so I’m not sure. If so, it’s part no.4 on here:

Part number 51127016076. Easy to get hold of on fleaBay, although you’d be better off going to a breaker.

N.b. This is the part number for a pre-LCI 2.5i whereas [ref]Bristolcot90[/ref]’s link is for a 2.0i. Different part numbers, so be careful.

I have one in the garage ...... will dig it out tomorrow night and send you a pic .What year is your car .

Realoem.com will give you interchanges for any trim or anything on these. The hard part is finding it within the categories, so ill leave that to you  (should give you a diagram of the part by itself, and then you can hopefully surmise how to remove it)

This is super helpful! Thanks very much. Mine is a 57 plate 2.5i so hopefully this number is correct. Perfect

Would be hugely appreciated. Mine is a 57 plate so late 2007 car.

Looks like the same for all models of E85, so you should be OK. In fact the part number in [ref]Bristolcot90[/ref]’s link supersedes the one in mine.

Took this photo last week as I had the rear bumper off for a couple of jobs. It's quite a complex piece of plastic that locates/secures the top edge of the bumper skin. It is fastened to the car itself with about 8 x 8mm self-tappers iirc. Unfortunately you will need to remove the bumper skin to replace it which in itself is not difficult but is made a lot easier with the rear of the car up on axle stands and the wheels removed  20220109_152950.jpg
