Broken Strut Brace

Hey all

The drivers side strut brace on my 53 reg Z4 has snapped. I have heard there was a bulletin issued about this problem, but does this mean BMW will fix the problem free of charge/at discount rate? Or am I better off getting it welded by an independant?

Typically it broke yesterday (with a loud boing noise) just as the car was advertised on Autotrader and I did have (had) 3 interested people coming tomorrow to look at it. Clearly not going to happen now! (I think the car just doesnt want to leave me as the last time I advertised back in the summer the airbag light came on causing me to cancel viewers whilst I got that sorted.)

Has anyone else suffered this and got it sorted easily/quickly?

If it's the steel brace to the bulkhead I have one (replaced mine with a full brace) - £20 plus postage if your interested?

The ones I have seen that have snapped have actually been the mounting points on the struts, not the actual brace.

Maybe a good time to switch to a full after market brace set as they attach to the actual strut .

My local indie is going to weld it on Wednesday. He said he's seen it before on Z4s as the standard spot welding isn't really adequate. He reckons it will be stronger than it was once he's finished with it, and its only going to cost an hour's labour so massive relief.

Searching for an answer to my own question (which I've just posted separately , I'd better edit my other post now), and came across this. I now have the same problem.

An hours labour!? That's cheap! Need to find a decent indy now :(

Suspect it would be covered under AUC, but the AUC on my car ran out some time ago :(
