Yes your right! :) is it a common issue? I've just passed the 50,000 miles

i wouldnt say common... but has been reported.... what was the TQ value you use normally??? id like to think a cross brace would help with this issue.... but maybe not... either way its very minor and easlily repaired by any decent shop/tuner.

Thanks Beedub :D tbh I have never tightened the brace myself. The last place to do it was a main bmw dealer a couple of years ago.

So is it just a weld job then?

Thanks again for your relpy

dog.... theird actually a piece by bmw that superceedes this piece.... id need to see the pics though to be sure.

Torque on the nut would have no effect there as the mount on the strut has sheared.

Either repair weld or third party strut brace with the firewall brace to fix, as non oem firewall braces normally attach to the top of the strut using the same mounting plate as the main brace.

Possibly BMW will treat this like the M3 diff supports that have been cracking on the E46?

they are doing the ones less than 10 years old for free. Apparently the repair is £5k and done by BMW dealers.

worth a try.

Not seen that before, hope you can get it fixed easily and cheaply enough, as Dario suggests it may be worth a trip to your local dealer, good luck

I know hence my more descriptive post :)

Mine cracked and I had to get it welded. Common fault.

Welding cost c.£100 inc vat from my local indy

Thanks for all the reply's guys! I will take a trip to my local dealer first and then to an indy if I get no joy from the dealer.

My last inspection 2 was at an indy which included Eibach springs and allignment so not sure a main dealer would be interested in my problem after that?

Cheers :)

Dealers are coin operated machines. You put money in, they stay interested!

The fact that these brackets fracture on the OEM diagonal braces indicates that a strutbrace, which connects the two suspension towers together, must serve some purpose to improve handling.

Even a loose bolt on the diagonal brace will cause a lot of creaking, which indicates that the brace is maintaining rigidity

Thanks all.

Took the car to a local small garage this morning, they rebuilt my front caliper around 6 mnths ago.

I'm going back on Mon or Tues to get it welded for around £30

I'm sure the cars not handling as well but that could be in my head...lol anyway its getting sorted.

Cheers
