Best to work with an axle stand under the chassis. Then remove the wheel. Look in the lower area of the suspension arm for the fracture of the broken spring. You could feel around without removing the wheel, but I never found it until I took the wheel off.roblightbody said:This is a dumb question... and might well be answered somewhere else (apologies if so) but for a non-mechanic, with no ramps, but with a trolley jack (if I know where to put it...) is it easy-ish for me to conclusively establish if the spring is broken or not?

Andy, same happened to me last year at 29k! my mechanic says its a fault in the design of the rear springs, they thin out near the end and thats where they break. :xArgyll Andy said:59 plate 23i 52k Rattle started rear passenger side, spring snapped an inch from bottom. New ones supposed to arrive today - haven’t yet!!!
