MOT fail today. Rear spring  Gutted I sold those ebichas I bought for £60 now. Truly gutted.

How much do they cost to buy now?

New there £190. I got them like 6 months old for £60

I'm paying £60 each for OEM ones.

Out of interest, why were you not happy with the Eibichas- too low??

I never fitted them. They sat in a garage for a few months and I sold them on.

2004, 3.0 SE, 38K, rear spring gone Oct 2016. Sorted 2 replacement Suplex springs for £92, getting fitted this weekend.

So, I put yesterday aftenoon aside to change the rear brakes, discs, calipers & shoes and found this! :headbang:

I inspected them about 3 months ago when they were fine but looking at the rust in the break the coil has been cracked for a while even though it looks new and was an oem part replaced some years ago under warranty according to the paperwork. Anyway thanks to all for the replacement tips. it's not a tricky job once the sticky bottom bolts are shifted! One thing to add, I managed to drop the hub sufficiently single handed by screwing a stud guide in to the wheel hub and leaning on a tube slipped over it, no problem. Shiney standard height Sachs are now installed which are a little firmer without being crazy or dropping the ride height at all which is no use to me because of my driveway and speed humps I have to negotiate. Job done, now back to the the brakes :exitright: spring2.jpgspring3.jpgspring4.jpgspring5.jpg

Back on the list again :-(

Replaced both rears in June 2013 with parts from Sopers, one has broken again. Never really considered these as consumable parts with other cars :-(

Any recomendations beyond Sopers?

Part no is 33507836827 IIRC

Myself and others have fitted Suplex springs- these are good quality german made spings that are available in SE or M sport equivalent.

My front has spring has snapped after a 3 week sleep on the drive, has this happened to anyone else?? Does everyone replace with sachs or suplex? I'm no intending to lower it despite the slammed look i have at this moment lol.

thanks guys.

Here's mine...
2006
Z4MC
54000 miles
OSR/NSR both.

Just the same as my previous 2003 E46 M3. Seems to be a common BMW theme.

Mine went a couple of weeks ago.

2003, E83, 83k miles.

By the clunks and the clean broken ends they seem to both have gone at the same time.

Z4 2.5 2003 117,000 miles
Yup had one replaced in Feb last year... other was done last week (March 2017)

Didn't know at the time it's best to get em both done together.
With the mileage on my car it's prob not the first replacement either :driving:

Almost certainly, my first set were first replaced at 3 yrs 15k miles!

BMW coils aka the Turkey Twizzler

well my other broke at 59k - one looked to be replaced but I can't see it in the receipts so heck knows when.

did it my self, wasn't too difficult at all! very do-able if you jam the breaker bar between the arm and caliper and carefully push down.

replaced both sides as the other was a bit rusty too so only a matter of time, I'm assuming it doesn't matter what brand they springs are they will still snap ?

looking back through the history of my car and it would appear that mine too have been replaced
