Broken Springs - List (add yourself if you've been affected)

You can add me to this list. Just been informed that OSR spring is broken. Seem to have faired better with the mileage on this car as it is 67000 plus. Car is an 2003 model and has the 2.5l engine.

Had a broken spring on my 3.0Si Coupe, and now the NSR coil on my M Coupe has gone :(. NSR 32,000miles (but probably gone before that)

Add me to the list folks,

Just took my z4 coupe (si sport), in to a dealer for inspection 1, rear offside coil spring broken. £220 to replace one spring as its out of warranty. Only done 35k in 4 years.
Seriously annoyed! Especially after reading this thread!

cheers,

John

+1 unfortunately.

400 miles from home and a lump of spring sat on the table in front of me. And it was taking me ages to track down what was rattling in the boot...

So,
cj_eds 3.0si coupe, 24000 miles on the clock.

Thank you BMW for the AUC warranty that runs out in little over a month.

Just to add to the last post, how many have been replaced under warranty and how many have done both? As I've found out, the warranty only covers a broken one so they wouldn't pay for both to be repaired. I reckon if I'd gone in without a warranty they'd have recommended changing both... (or am I cynical?)

Had one replaced under warranty (3.0Si Coupe) and had one replaced outside of warranty (M coupe)

you do not need to replace both springs if one has broken. A broken spring can be due to an imperfection in the metal and that doesn't mean the other one will have the same fault, and springs don't sag or anything over time either apparently so you dont need to replace both just because one has gone after 30k miles or whatever.

Hi second spring has broken

Z4 2.2i 2005 45,400miles on the clock

Ii think it appears 40k is the normal distance for the springs!

z3 3.0 roadster 54 plate
NSR went at ~24000 miles if i remember? previous owner had it replaced FOC by BMW

a new creaking noise I've just noticed in the past week sounds like one of them may have gone again :?

Z4 3.0Si Sport - 2007 - 27000 miles

Just had an Inspection 1 service and found out that OSR broken - wouldn't know by driving the car - will get both rears replaced by inde.

Yet another one. OSR picked up at MOT - would not have known otherwise...
2006 2.0 SE - 31k. BMW offered free spring if I paid for labour. Clearly a problem with the design - springs should last longer then that!

Not had a spring go yet, in fact haven't picked up the zed yet but interested to know have BMW sorted these spring issues now, and is it more common on early production vehicles ??

Seems horrendous that springs go at such low mileage, never had a spring go ever and I've owned/driven some right old knackers.

Common on all Z4's (E85/6 and E46's and older models)

Big wheels, runflat tyres, hard suspension all factors, BMW will never resolve as it's a revenue maker

noticed a creaking sound the other day and found a piece of spring sat on the floor by the wheel, so add me to the list.

56 3.0si Sport Coupe
18,000 miles.

Not sure if mine were broken but ex-BMW mechanic insisted that both rear springs were replaced prior to me picking up vehicle from second-hand dealer

2005 2.0L
36,000
