Broken Spring

Hi Guys,

I have a 2.0 ltr Sport and on the way home on Friday night one of my springs broke. Need the car for work and it's my daily, so took it to garage at the weekend. Does anyone know if this model just has standard springs? It's not an M Sport so I assume it does not have M Technics suspension or anything fancy? Garage needs to call supplier on Monday, but with Christmas round the corner I'm trying to work out cost. I was more than happy with the ride and I not looking to lower it or anything. Just don't want the wrong springs fitted.

Thanks for any advice

They are colour coded. Check what your car came with by putting the last 7 of your VIN in at http://www.bimmer.work/

The standard springs are not expensive and available from most factors, the M however are thicker and more expensive.

When you replace a broken spring then both spring should be replaced at the same time. US BMW dealer only sell the springs in pairs and will not replace just a single spring.

I have to change one of mine and got a used one from Scooba_Steve (cheers mate  ) to tide me over, Why don't you do it yourself.

Welcome bud, its an easy job if you can lift the car - no point paying someone to do it. Even if you need to buy a jack then it's probably still cost neutral.
You can replace a single spring, though it is better to replace in pairs, BMW Europe certainly don't insist on it unless you have an M.
