Broken Spring

Hi all, I'm in need of a little advice. Just had my Z4 (3.0si Coupe '08) MOT'd at my local BMW main dealer. It failed on n/s/f coil spring being broken. They had no reason why it broke on a car with full dealer history and with only 3k miles done since the last MOT, but thats by the by. The dealer will carry out the repair for £180 including parts. Can anyone tell me where I can source a spring myself and recommend a good BMW specialist in the West Mids area? :D

Common and know problem unfortuately :headbang:

For £180, I'd be tempted to get a set of Eibach's on instead, gives you a bit of peace of mind too as it's probably only a matter of time before another one goes.

Thanks for advice, wheres best place to get a pair?

I've read good things on here about Larkspeed and M Style, no doubt other people will point you in the right direction. :)

Going the Eibach route means swopping all corners really (oem rears are vulnerable anyway) I sourced mine from Germany (via eBay) for circa £140. Around £100 fitting.

The OP did say NSF spring, the common springs to go are the rears, not heard of front springs going but will stand corrected.

Try Suplex in Sheffield,. I had my rear springs from them and my other half replaced them. Good springs at a good price.
There's a good indie in Bilston B M Euroservice, try them, I be been happy with their service.

Sorry my mistake, broken spring is rear o/s/r, still in shock with the news

Rears are a DIY job (with a friend/neighbour), replaced both of mine in approx 45 mins start to finish & cost £110, springs were from Suplex UK, that price included next-day delivery BTW.

i have a pair of rear springs for sale.

I just fitted Eibach springs and i have all 4 of them for sale.

I will do some photos today if interested.

Found plenty of new springs via ebay, my Zed has M Sport suspension option, does that mean the new springs I need are standard for model or not?

Do you really want eBay springs of unknown quality? & yes, the M sport suspension is 15mm lower than standard so you need to make sure you purchase the right ones.

12months after I privately purchased my Zed, I discovered that the replacement rear springs fitted by an Indy a couple of months before I purchased the car were for Factory Standard Suspension. I contacted the Indy and they fitted at no cost to me the correct springs for M Sport Suspension. Suplex UK based in Sheffield provided a no quibble service recognising they had supplied the wrong springs.

Thanks that a what I was thinking, I'm using ebay as a shop window really, all potentials are bonafide suppliers. Might not even use them just in the consideration stage at the moment.

I have just had both my rear springs replaced with Suplex 6231 springs (M-Sport specification), as one had broken. Cost £81.62 including VAT from my local independent BMW parts supplier. Handling much improved, very happy!

just bought some a pair suplex springs online for £103 all in, can get them both fitted for £45 so quids in really.

That's what the supplier is telling me, I made the point that the car runs on M Sport suspension not the standard set up. Fingers crossed they are correct whin they arrive!!
