Broken screen

My widescreen has just broken ... No warning no stone hits just crack! I was doing 80 with the top down on the motorway

Is this an inherent problem or just bad luck

I would say its just bad luck. Being a German car everything including the windscreen is TUV tested, it's very rare for this sort of thing to happen on anything bar a TVR.

Are you 100% sure you didn't already have a chip near where the screen cracked..? This is normally the reason for it and hence why they always advise chips are repaired ASAP.

Check your insurance docs carefully, as last time I got my quotes (last December) I saw that some companies had a little note in their T&Cs which said something along the lines of "For certain vehicles our standard windscreen excess will not apply - please see your policy document for the excess applicable to your vehicle."

I thought it was a bit strange as you wouldn't know your windscreen excess until you'd taken out you policy!

LV= have a £170 excess on Z4MC windscreens.

I was trying to work out how the hell your widescreen broke, isn't that at home :poke:

The the LV excess cover all coupes, or just M Coupe?
Don't know, as it says to check your policy documents when they arrive for the excess specific to your vehicle.

I suppose if it's a huge amount that you don't agree with then you could use the cooling off period to back out of the contract. In my case they were £300 cheaper than the next cheapest (Bell, whose excess was £70), so even if I did have to pay the £170 excess I'd still be £130 up.

My windscreen excess with Admiral was £50 on a roadster. Not sure if I got a good deal or is just standard for them...??

Lol I thought it would be better strapped to the front of the car :) autocorrect is great isn't it.

The insurance is with admiral and the excess is 75 for a new one 25 for a chip fix ...

I'm sure there were no stone chips but it does look like there is definate place where something hit its about 4 inches in from the edge on the drivers side. Maybe something glanced off it and I didn't hear it. Like you said bad luck but I just wanted to check
