Broken Dashboard Mounting Tab - How to fix?

I'm replacing the left and right side dashboard air vents (and cup holders) and one of the mounting tabs fell off. It was already broken with not much tab left. I think someone tried to "fix" the cup holder and probably didn't know how to remove it. I'm hoping someone on here has dealt with this issue successfully. The other tab is very strong, but I don't want to put all the pressure on just the one tab.

I was thinking I could get a piece of semi-flexible plastic, drill a hole in it and superglue it on from behind as a new tab... in theory, it seems like a good idea.

Any help greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Just not sure exactly how to do it so that it holds properly. I'm hoping somebody has done this successfully before. I checked youtube, but didn't find anything helpful so far....

I think so long as you use a decent plastic adhesive and stick it behind where the old tab mounts will be, you'll be fine. It only needs to support the corner thats still fine and strong. Thats what I'd do anyway.

But where would I find a compatible piece of plastic that I can drill into? I guess I could do what surgeons do and steal a little piece from a different part of the car. haha (I'm sure that would go horribly wrong!)

I had same problem.

I cut out small piece of sheet metal, covered part of it in 2 part epoxy, and slid it in dash "foam" layer. After it was in place i used more of epoxy, to make it thicker (used plastic packaging to keep it flat'ish). After everything settled hole was drilled.

Job was messy and time consuming, but it's rock solid.
Unfortunately i didn't make any photos.
