And Tim, you went from a 2.0 E89 to the M135i whilst SOB is looking to go from a 35is, the top spec E89 to a M135i so your comparison to his maybe a little different in terms of how much more 'alive' the 1 series feels over the E89

Two very very different cars in all respects so it's impossible to make a qualified comparison.
As good as the M135 is, look and performs, it just looks like another euro box.

I disagree, theres no other Eurobox that looks like it

Tim.

I love it when people slag off hatchbacks because they don't need one in their life but when they do they're suddenly the best thing since sliced bread.

If practicality isn't needed buy a 2 seater, if it is then a hatchback

The Hyundai ??
Ok it's eastern but aimed at Euro land.

As good as the m135 is - it won't get the attention that the z4 gets. It's just yet another saloon car amongst many.

Totally agree Tim  I don't need one & don't want one ! But if I did it would be the M135 !
But M235 is a far nicer looking car lol

Just take your money and look around, even if you buy one in January, you will be saving money as prices will have dropped further in the height if winter.....

Only prob with the M235i its a fair bit more expensive than the hatch 5K plus for essentially the same car although I think the suspension is slightly different, I do prefer the 2ers looks though. I will be interested to see what they do with 1er LCI and whether it will adopt the 2ers front end to bring it in line with the corporate front end look, the 1er is at odds with the rest of range as it stands.

Interesting that people are going for the looks over the drive :fuelfire:

Looks a no brainer to take the dealers offer, though it's understandable to become emotionally attached to a car despite its faults.

A bit like when people have a car and tell you how great it was until they've ordered a new one and then they tell you it was crap all along.

and for the record, I do miss the zed, certainly it's nimbleness, however we are loyal to our present drives regardless.

I miss the out and out power delivery.....foot down, and it's a rocket...

The SLK takes a little more effort, still shifts.....but not as big a beast as the E89

 Thats actually pretty true, but circumstances change, pity I couldn't fit a wheelchair in the Zed but I wouldn't discount ever getting another so long its not the fourpot :D engine just didn't gel with me in the end.

Still very happy at the mo and if good enough for grandad good enough for me, the comparison to Toyotas Corolla was the clincher :D

Tim.

But did you ever give it chance to warm up to find out? No engine sounds that great when cold, more so if it's on a regular basis

It actually sounded worse after a good work out, when cold it was the loud whine, once warmed the tapping lol I took it to the dealers 3 times, first time they replaced the waistgate solenoid valve then decided it was normal when we compared it to a 2.8 lol so nothing to do when cold or hot etc I think the engine was shagged from the factory.

So they never compared it with another 2.0 ?

No the dealer didn't have another 2.0 in at the time, to be fair the 2.8 sounded similar to mine which had a faint whine on cold start and was tappety but mine was just alot worse especially the whine which was really loud and would slowly subside as the car warmed up but not completely. I really didn't fancy the dealer pulling the engine apart and neither did they as we didn't know where the noise was coming from and it didn't affect how the car ran, just sounded awful. More worryingly the engine would make a low pitched tapping which you could hear inside the cabin after a run. I suspected oil starvation. It was a shame as I probably would have kept the zed and bought a smaller hatch but don't think that was a good idea given potential future problems. Ironic that my Z3 is a 4cyl and worth peanuts but sounds lovely and smooth which is why I was disapointed with the Z4 considering what it cost.

If you like the Z and dont really want to get rid of it why not hand it back and find another one with similar spec but without the problems?

Which is exactly what I have managed to do today :)

Deposit paid on a pearl white 13 plate with 2,400 miles as opposed to my black 11 plate with 30,000 miles. Cost to me - no difference for the same term + the 'new' one has Nav and the uprated stereo/speakers :)

I just hope my original dealer takes my black one back as agreed speedily and transfers the money in order I can get the new one asap !!
