So my Zed only came with one knackered key i.e it only works manually. Spoke to Car Key Doc in Nottingham and I've been quoted £120 for a new fully functioning key. 🗝 Result.

What is exactly wrong with your key, if it’s an original key the fob is sealed, it contains a transponder chip that is programmed to your cars EWS system, the transponder is read via an aerial around the ignition key slot when the key is inserted. If it has the correct code for your car and a rolling code that is given to the transponder every time the key is used it will release the starter motor and allow the car to bed cranked and started. The second system inside the fob is the central locking pcb and buttons. This is the only part of the key that requires the internal battery to operate it. The transponder requires no power to operate. The battery is soldered to the pcb and gets charged when it is in the ignition switch by magic!!
If the key blade is the broken part then you will require a new key, a locksmith will be able to cut a new key if the blade is intact but bare in mind the old key may be worn and difficult to copy. Once a new key is cut it has to be programmed into the car which requires the EWS module being taken out and the pcb board read to get the cars key coding. It is this file the new key is coded from by coding it to an unused slot or to the duff keys slot. Once it has been added in the file should be written back to the EWS module.
£120 sounds about average price to pay for new key and coding it.
Ebay blanks are cheap but then you have the hassle of cutting and coding it and finding someone who can do it. I would suggest that you could cut the fob open and retrieve the transponder inside and put it in an eBay replacement blank, have the blade cut and you would have a refurbed key that will crank and start without coding it. A new key from a locksmith would have to be coded to a different vacant slot in the cars key list on the EWS module.

Yeah I know all that. My key is completely buggered. It literally unlocks the car via the door lock and starts the car and that's it. The bottom button on the fob has been pushed in so hard at some point that it is broke at the bottom and jammed inwards. I want the new key to do all the extra bits and have the old key as a spare.colb said:

Beware of ebay key blanks - I've not found a locksmith around here who will cut one for me as they say they steel can be vary variable quality an can damage their machines.
