Broke down today.....

Hi Johnny

Mine did exactly the same thing on the 10th. I limped it home (not easy is it!) and left the car while I had a look at the manual. An hour later it started and ran fine with only the Exhaust emission value light remaining on. The next day all the lights were out and the car was running fine. I drove it a fair bit for the next 3 days until I took it to Oxford BMW.

It had logged a fault with the throttle system. I can't give you the codes I'm afraid. They rechecked the connections to the throttle valve and reset the throttle adaptions (I'm just reading the description from the bill). The action codes on the bill are 6100006 and 1199000.

Touch wood all seems fine again, but I will continue to drive it and give you a heads up if the problem re-occurs.

Cheers for that, its interesting isn't it, how it just resolves itself without any indication as to why. Do you drive yours daily? I was wondering if I was falling victim to only using the car occasionally and it not liking it. I've had other cars in the past throw codes due to infrequent use, but if you use them daily they never miss a beat.

I think i'll clear the adaptions (I know how to do that in the software), and start using it for my commute for a few weeks and see what happens with it.....

I'll post on here if i get any further issues with it off the back of this.

Not daily, but 3 to 4 times a week. I've done about 6000 miles a year since I got it. This is the first issue I've had with it. best of luck!

If you're going to keep a car like a ZM and only use it occasionally, there are a couple of simple rules to keep it working without problems.
1. Keep the battery in tip-top condition with a trickle charger when not in use, which also helps the ECU keep itself fully functioning at all times.
2. Take the car for a run at least once a month where you properly warm it up and use all the switch gear and air-con. When the car is warm give it the full rev range. This keeps everything in working order and lubricated.

So, had another instance of the same as i came out of work this afternoon and had my laptop with me with INPA loaded. Its predominantly in german which isnt ideal, but i know enough to get to the right screen and it dumped the P1633 and P1417 codes

i've googled the codes 2d09 and 2cfb and found a few posts suggesting different things now.... Tps, maf, throttle actuator....

Just noticed in the picture the voltages for each tps are different. Could be that?

Mines beginning to exhibit signs of a failing battery. The screen occasionally fails to rise and once in a while the starter is sluggish. Same 2006 and I'm wondering if the battery is the original.

So what's the recommended replacement?

Bosch s6 096 agm..... Your symptoms are exactly how mine was. Booked mine in at bmw today.... Going in on the 12th for investigation into the throttle issue I've now got

I would go for oem as I have not seen a Bosch match the lifetime of that one.

They all seem to fail within their warranty period so yes, you get a free one again, but I would not want the hassle.

i used oem new battery , i got 5 years out the orginal one... then swapped to a lightweight item that last 6 months before the car fried it.... i then went back to an oem unit and haven't looked back, when it comes to batteries on this particular vehicle im going to stick with oem... the stock unit was cheap anyway from memory... i picked mine up from bminiparts.

But it lasts twice as long :D
But exactly as long as the half price non-OEM alternative and its free replacement :P

Minus the hassle factor of having a non starter and the fitting hassle on an M twice :poke:

ok, so i reset all the adaptations in the ECU yesterday as someone told me that is probably what BMW will do first up anyway. So I've been out yesterday and today and the car seems to run better than ever. wonder if it was just a battery change related gremlin? going to attempt to use it every day for work again this week and see what it does....

It's good to practise these things, lest one needs to perform a battery change on a dark night with no torch :P
I can change mine blindfolded using only one hand 8)

Actually, I replaced mine with a new OEM battery in 2009 and have had no problems since.

So I'm putting this one down to the car getting confused when i had to change the battery, after clearing all the ECU adaptations its been fine, i've used it for work all week and put on about 500 miles and it seems to be running better than ever.

Out of interest, how did you clear the ecu adaptions?

Glad it's behaving for you now!

Cheers! I used a cable off eBay and the INPA software it came with.... Quite easy to do once you've read up on it!
