British Grand Prix 2016

Fancy going to Silverstone next year - looking at the ticket availability it's all a bit daunting about where to pick - straight or corner etc . Anyone here recommend a good spot ? Do they have tv screens all around to keep track of what's happening ? got to be race day of course :D

Are you sure? Have you checked the race day prices? :o Whilst I agree that BGP is a great place for the Brits there are cheaper GP's you could attend

Like SPA, It'll rain there as well so you'd feel at home.

either way if it's straight -v- corner it's corner

Yeah, I'd go corner - or corners - rather than a straight. I was in the cheap seats two years ago, last of the v8s (for now...) - in fact the seats were so cheap, I had to bring my own! So my pal and I got settled at the Becketts complex, you could see from the first dart left they do, then the right, then another shimmy and they were away up the back straight - our view was basically the outside of the track looking along the back straight - you'll be getting better seats no doubt but, although I didn't really get a lot of experiences elsewhere around the track apart from the main straight, I don't think you'd go wrong there. IIRC there was a massive couple of stands where you can see all of that from the inside of the track (infield), from where you can lord it over the plebs...

thanks - from what I've read so far Becketts do look a good option - prices are a bit eye watering but hey you can't take it with you ............

I went to the MotoGP last year, like others have said Becketts is good, especially if you are at the Chapel curve end
You can see the cars exiting Maggots through Becketts and then Chapel. The speed they change direction is amazing
You can also see a large screen from there
(not sure for cars, but for the bikes Chapel was designated as the official place for practice starts)
Plenty of room on the gravel bank in front the of the grandstand.
Only issue was it didn't get the sun until late in the day - so thanks to our typical British summer it was quite cool standing there.
Also handy for toilets and food outlets immediately behind the stand

Price for Becketts corner on race day is £249 - just on £500 for both of us :( Looking at the ticket sales a general admission ticket is £99 - anyone used a general admission ticket ? what major disadvantages are there besides not having a seat ? Advantages besides saving £300 would be moving around ,getting closer to screens - queuing and parking will be a headache for everyone - was thinking of may be driving to Milton Keynes and getting a shuttle bus - is this feasible ?

Grit your teeth and go in the grandstand Gov, you can at least see the cars whereas on the grass unless you're a giant you spend the race dodging left and right trying to look between people's shoulders or the backs of their heads. Admittedly I am a short arse so this is my experience in the past. You won't be any nearer the screens to make any difference with a general admission. Cheapest parking is to book park and ride ASAP as they sell out quickly. I totally messed up this year and it cost me £60 to park on the east side field, however doing this it meant I was out of the circuit, missed the main drag out so got to the M1 all within half an hour, so I was a happy bunny. You can watch the support races from wherever on the circuit then find your seat for the race.

All just IMO obviously but I would save up and go grandstand every time.

At 6'7" I probably do qualify as a giant but my wife at a mere 5'7" would not see a lot

I reckon you're right - it's a case of biting the bullet !

Becketts and Club are undoubtedly the best grandstands in that order. The new layout means Becketts can see all the way from pit exit to Luffield (BRDC), and then from Maggotts to the Hangar Straight - a good third or so of the action. The increase in price over other grandstands does mean that youre paying an extra £100 for just that seat on race day though.

Club has the benefit that you can see the Podium and get on the track quickly to look at the pits after the national anthems.

Club A is probably about 75% the price of Club, its uncovered, but still a very good view.

General admission is a good price, however if you're there all weekend, you cant access the grandstands (unless you find one un-supervised!) IIRC. You need to get there EARLY on race day to bag a good spot (like 4AM!). Any grandstand seat will allow you to roam all grandstands over the weekend - try to watch Quali from Becketts in that case, get there a good hour early!

DEFINITELY take a radio/earphones to listen to the commentary - it will keep you apprised of the race, it will be very confusing otherwise (even looking at the screen). I've not heard the V6's track side, but the V8's and V10 screams meant you couldnt hear yourself even think ;)

On Friday the grandstands are open, free, and available to all. :)
