Bridgestones - not much choice!

I now have a pair of Bridgestone Potenza S001's on the back. Not by choice.....

After a run from Carcassonne (south of France) down to Barcelona in the M i got a bulge in one of the rear tyres on the return leg. It certainly wasnt much fun bumping and shaking down the road for 5 hours until i got back. To top it of there was wild fires blazing so the motorways were closed and i had to take the coast road. Any other time a winding road with sea views and the top down would be nice!! But 8 hours in the heat not daring more than 50mph in case the car shook apart was a slog :( .

So, according to french law you have to have matching brand tyres on the same axel. As you can imagine.....'Vredestein?????? - NON'

And as much as I searched around lots of garages not one place could source a tyre in my sizes apart from BMW, who only had one option - a pair of these Bridgestone Potenza S001's at £300 each plus fitting.

The reviews look promising, but if i had been back home no way would i have spanked this much on a pair of tyres, but hey ho. I'll let you know how they wear, but at the moment they seem sticky and solid :)

like the sound of the roadtrip , carcassonne / narbonne area great area for motoring
bridestones i have ran for the last 3 cars without issue , doubt BMW would spec them if they were garbage
what do you think caused the tyre bulge in the vredestein ?

Don't you find that your zed dances all over the place on our B roads with run flats, mine certainly did and as for tram-lining :headbang: The e89 is significantly better on run flats but there is no way I would have them on an e85/e86 with 18" wheels.

As for the OP no complaints for wear and traction on the original Bridgestone RE 050A, however my Goodyears F1 A2 grip better but are a slightly softer compound.

well very soon i,l give you a definitive comparison answer for RF,S V standard rubber , , should have the 18,s M wheels on by weekend with vredesteins so according to folklore i,m expecting a noticeable difference ?
yes i have found the Zed hard & twitchy but put that down to the car's characteristics as this wasn't the case with RF's on my 6 series
we shall see :)
