We do some work for the EU commission in Brussels. From my first hand experience, I'm amazed how behind the times they are, as well as how long it takes for changes to be made and the amount of money being wasted on meetings that little progress is made.
Your talking about them paying for delegates from every country to fly to brussels every other day. Sticking them up in hotels. Paying for all their meals and drinks, etc.
And nothing really happens at these meetings or something is decided and then it takes years to implement the smallest of changes and they require 2-3 further meetings on the same change over a 2 year period as a box ticking exercise.
I'd rather that money stayed within The UK. All we are doing is propping up the economies of those that are worse off.
In the short term everyone knew the market would crash. You would have to be ignorant to think otherwise. Its required to then let it balance out. I gaurantee you the UK will be better off in the long run.
Our politicians may not make all the right decisions but the more money we keep in the UK the better for the economy.
Weak pound is great for exports. So expect to see them rise and importing lowered. Means more money in the UK than would have been with a strong pound. With time expect to see the £ strengthen. Its a cycle and it always balances out.
There is no uncertainty in my mind. All scaremongering to keep the masses scared and in check as they dont understand how it all works.
The £ will rise again all that will mean is people buy less and it will balance out to a point where the £ is at the right point for exports and imports.
For example lets say you have 2 shops outside your house UK and EU. One is in £ the other euros. £ weakens therefore too expensive to shop in eu due to weak exchange rate so you buy from UK. People who bought from UK anyway buy more as their money goes further.
The UK shop is getting a lot of business now and decides to raise prices. Now some people stop shopping there. If raised too high and too many people stop shopping then they will have to cut prices. They keep following this until balance is met that the UK shop is happy with.
There is nothing to fear. In fact I would say there is good times ahead as we no longer need to prop up countries like Romania, Albania, Poland, Greece, etc.
Expect to see inflation, increase in interest rates. These again are the markets way of finding its new balance. When it does expect to see them drop again to the value they should be at. Its a balancing act and everything is linked. There is no good without bad and bad without good.
Expect a few rough years with plenty good in the future when the UK market balances out. Just now its trying to find its new value.
