Break lights on all the time 04E85 bought a new switch looked on line YouTube got the old one off I’ve noticed the pedal on mine has nothing to touch the new switch is my car different

The contact is a break circuit affair
You’ll see a black square/rectangle 4/5ths the way up the brake pedal assembly which is adjustable by sliding on an internal ratchet
It should contact the metal of the pedal when the pedal is at rest: lights off
If it’s not adjusted to do this and there is a gap: lights on constantly
