Break Dust

Ok, I have now had my Z4 for a week now and I love the breaking ability.

I HATE the break dust.

I have to clean the wheels almost every day.....

On my F150, I had the same problem. I installed Ceramic Pads. My breaking abilities went up and the dust went way down. Almost non-existent.

What types of break pads are you all using to combat this problem?

I haven't changed my pads yet. But your right. Ceramic pads generally create less dust. You can also wax your wheels to make them easier to clean and it reduces the amount of dust on the wheels as well.

I changed mine to semi ceramic,I have heard full ceramics under hard breaking conditions can warp solid rotors. Don't know if it's true.

It's part of my "going green " plan.....I figure if I can get them close enough.I will reduce my carbon footprint.

I live between the Courthouse in VB and Pungo. I have to drive to the Naval Base everyday.... All week I have had to go to NNews Shipyard and have been driving the Z4. 45 miles one way.... But a lot of fun in the Z.

hey, don't make fun of Pungo, that's my user name!!! just kidding, I grew up in Va Beach and used to cruise to Pungo just to get away... and now use that user name, I though nobody even heard of Pungo. I haven't been there in a very long time but it used to have one little traffic light. What's it like now? oh, surfs up this weekend!!!

Z4 content = yea, I have a ton of brake dust daily on my 30 mile round trip on back county roads. I was hoping the dust would ease up after they brake in. I only have 330 miles so far...

Since I have another 10K or so left in my pads, I won't be changing them for over a year, so today I cleaned my wheels real well and have carefully applied Zaino clear seal to them (off the car) to see if I can at least reduce the effort required to clean them.

Have you considered the AXXIS Pads? I switch over a year ago and i am very happy with the Axxis pads, i have gone 2 weeks without cleaning and the wheels are not black. And it gets better, you can almost hose the dust off. The are reasonably priced too...
