They are not cosmetic. They are original BMW items as fitted to 1 series and Minis. They are functional from factory.

Many choose the stubby because they, subjectively, feel that the stubby looks better
I’m asking, other than the looks, are they better as an aerial compared to the normal bee sting aerial that’s fitted as standard?

I did not challenge as to authenticity
I did not question their function, but merely, do they serve as an improved signal receiver?

That aerial does the AM/longwave bands if I'm not mistaken. The FM aerial is in the rear bumper area.
So for most people changing the style is irrelevant to function.

Lol - I probably misread that, but you are correct. There are some chinese copies that just cosmetic as I found out before. One broke off during installation and I saw there was nothing inside at all. Just a plastic shell. The BMW stubby doesnt do anything better than the original whippy, it is in addition to the receiver in the boot (TomK's point above) but I liked its unobstrusivity and that it was functional as well.

cheers dude, I listen to a local radio station (Inspiration FM) and at times the signal drops due to location, hence my questions.
