Brakes

Hi.

Ive had my z4 3.0i for just over 6 months now and im extremely happy with it!

However when i first got the car the brakes were grinding and near the end of their life. So i did a bit of research on here and the general consensus was that PAGID disks and pads are good enough.
So i brought new Pagid disks and pads all round and had them fitted.

They were fine for about a month after fitting but after that they have started grinding reasonably badly .. any ideas what it could be??? :?
i asked the mechanic who fitted them but he just keeps on suggesting that its the quality of the disks and pads but everyone on here seems happy with pagid..
o yer they were fitted in october but i have been lazy and havent sorted this problem yet, i only drive the car on the wknds

If you're only driving it infrequently, then you're probably just getting a fine layer of oxidisation on the discs. It's nothing to worry about and should disappear after about 50 miles of normal driving.

I've had BMW dealer tell me I need new discs all around due to 'heavy corrosion' when it was just the oxidisation caused by leaving it damp conditions for as little as a day.

You would be well advised to run the car through a series of braking cycles, basically warm the discs a little with light braking to avoid thermal shock, then on a clear road brake it firmly from 60 to almost a stop, drive off immediately without stopping, back to 60 and repeat the braking a few times. Then drive until they cool down without stopping.

The discs and pads will get pretty hot and melt off any pad residue or imprints that have been left over time with gentle braking or sitting at lights with your foot on the pedal while the discs/pads are hot.
