OK guys just trying to change disks and pads on mother in laws z4 2.0. Is there a guide to changing them? The front calipers seem to have a 16mm bolt to hold caliper to carrier yet cant get a socket on it as the brake line is too close and spanners are nearly impossible to get in 16mm
The cars done 60k and the rears are just as worn as front soo need to buy some disks and pads for the rear too, any advice on what to get? Just gone for mintex on front

Any advice?

I thought it was a allen key that held the caliper to the carrier, normally you need to remove the gromet from the rubber cover to give access to the allen bolt.

I was wondering this. This seems to be a 7mm key which seem rare as you like too
Bigger than a 6 and smaller than a 8 anyway! Il have to go tool shopping!

Do you have to remove carrier to change disks on the Z4?
Any things I might need to do rears? Bar the rewind tool

7mm key is what you will need for the caliper. The carrier does need to come off to change the disks. I don't believe there is something special you need for rear brakes (other than 7mm allen), certainly I don't use anything special. I've not actually changed the parking brake pads (I think they are seperate-could be wrong).

Same tools as you used for the front. Just remember you have to wind back the handbrake shoes that operat like and old fashioned drum brake on the inside of the disk. Do this through one of the wheel bolt holes - right pita

You also need to bed in the handbrake after adjusting it by driving 100m with it pully partly on. Repeat a couple of times then readjust. Another pita
