Brakes?

Evening,

I getting towards needing discs and pads on my coupe. The car will be used on track very occasionally and a trip to the ring later this summer. What're people's recommendations please?

I have tried searching but had no joy.

Hey Russ, welcome to the forum. Unfortunately you've just missed the deal of the century regarding pagid brakes/discs from eurocarparts. I'm not experienced in fast road applications, so I'd rather leave that to the guys that have far more experience. I'm sure they'll be around shortly.

What's your preference

cheap and cheerful- ridex
OEM or middle of the road- feb/bosch
flush- brembo

ultimately its dependent on how much and how hard you drive your car

Keep an eye on eurocarparts, recently they had a deal on Pagid discs...I got front and rear for £42 all in!

Halfords had a good deal on Pagid pads recently.

I've got a full spare set of discs and pads for a Mini R56 from Autodoc if they are any use? Don't ask!

As bigwinn said, go for Febi, Bosch, Brembo or ATE discs as when you take to the track you shouldn't have to worry about them warping. You have two options as I see it for pads which is run 2 sets, one for road and one for track or run one set that is slightly more aggressive than a road set. I'd advise the latter as its easier and cheaper.

Typically the go to pads for fast road/occasional track use are Ferodo DS2500, EBC Yellowstuff or Bluestuff (which are now R90 approved for the Z4). I tend to prefer a more aggressive pad and live with the squealing on the road (I use Carbotech XP8 or XP10, but Pagid RS29 are also a great brake pad).

I cracked a Pagid rear disc running DS2500s on track. Brembo discs have been good for me. XP10 front, RS29 rear.
