For a 2.0:
Original pads from somewhere like EuroCarParts will be £50 for a 4 wheel set, plus another £120 for 4 discs.
If you can do it yourself then you'll be paying less than £200 all in - or add another £100 and get an indy to do it.
I only go to one indy in the 'London' area, but he's closer to Braintree/Colchester than London - although you can drop it off and get the train into Stratford.

OK spoke to BMW over the phone earlier today and they said that I don't need new discs (I have some rust around the edges). I just need front pads. I found the following on Euro Car parts. Which one do BMW use?
ATE Brake Pads (Front) £24.09
Eicher Brake Pads (Front) £11.79
Textar Brake Pads (Front) £32.14
All the Part Info numbers are 13.0460-5405.2 and Oe Systems are ATE. In fact everything is the same in the 'Additional Info' section, so I don't get the price difference? Which one's the original BMW part?? the ATE one???

i bought ebc green stuff pads, sensors and up-rated discs which came out at a shade over £400, £70 to fit and change fluid as well, local bmw indy. to be honest after looking up how to do the change on the net ill attempt it myself next time, still haven't got round to buying a jack and stands yet.

Unless you track your car, OEM is fine. Day to day driving the OEMs stop better when cold. Depends on what you want for your car. Axis are supposed to be very good as well, just make sure you don't pick up track pads-they're better when heated up, but your stopping distance will be longer when cold.
The Axis deluxe pads are an excellent replacement to OEM, if your not planning on tracking the car. They give off very little dust and fade at a little bit higher temp than the OEM ones (you most likely will never notice fade unless your tracking your car).
If I recally correctly the pad is a little bit bigger (er wider?) than the OEM pad so you might have a bit of a grove on your rotor, but an indy would probably turn the rotors to fix that.
I can't speak personally on the EBC pads, but they do come highly recommended on this forum.

No i'll never track my car. At most just some ripping and racing down normal roads and motorways.
I think i'll get OEMs as I am changing just the pads on this occasion. When I decide to change the whole shebang then i'll either change to Axxis or EBC.
2 further questions (i hope
)...
1) Is it ok to have a mix of different pads/discs on my car e.g. EBC pads on OEM discs, Axxis Pads on the front, OEM on the back, etc.
2) Are EBC pads wider/bigger too?

I think OEM pads are Textar, the name definetly rings a bell and the price wasn't far off the price of EBC Greenstuff pads.
I changed pads all round, I also needed to do the rear discs at the same time. I don't think mixing pads/discs would be a great idea.
The main benifit of the different pads for me is the lack of brake dust, the alloys stay looking cleaner for a lot longer.
Axis pads seem popular in the US but if I remember rightly, they're not so easy to get in the UK.

OK since my discs are still ok then i'll definetly go for OEM/Textar. I'm planning to change my wheels when my RFTs need replacing (they're currently almost brand new) and when i have some cash (broke at the mo) I think i'll opt for the EBC redstuff and ultimax discs.

Another question....
Other than the pads itself what else do i need to buy to replace the front pads? BMW said there's the paste and something else which i forgot... some cleaning oil or something like that. BMW also recommend changing the sensors too. So where can I get all these parts or do they come with the pads?? As you can see i've never done this before! :roll:

The paste is most likely an anti-squeel paste. For the cleaning oil I don't know what ya'll have over there but some sort of aerosol can that says brake cleaner. I think we have one aptly called brake clean. Both of these you can get at any autoparts store. For the sensors....did you brake light come on in your dash? If not then the sensor is not worn.
