Brakes Z4

Does anyone have an idea of what a break job should cost on a 2011 Z4? Dealership is quoting $1,100 for rear brakes.

Dear ghod but that's hilarious. Are they quoting carbon ceramic??!

I don't know about America but in the UK I'd expect parts to be $150 and about an hours labor.
 
OP, take it to an Indy.

Where are you located ?

Why do you think you need a brake job ?
 
Had it at the dealership I diagnose an issue with roof not closing. $900 later - bad sensor. The brakes were called out on the multi point inspection. $1100 just seemed $300 higher than I expected.
 
For $1100 what are they changing? Even if it is the discs (rotors) and pads that seems very high but then I know car mechanics in the US charge as much as lawyers do here.
 
I got a quote a little while ago to change all four discs (rotors) and pads from a BMW 'specialist'. They wanted £550 ($700?). That was all four.

I ended up doing them myself. Parts were £230 IIRC. All four, good make and wear sensors.

They are round lumps of steel and $30 pads at the end of the day. Takes a decent mechanic about 1/2 an hour a side.

BMW Pads and sensors through ECS Tuning or FCPEuro.. <$200... BMW parts for brake comsumables are just not necessary. OE nonbranded is is the same quality.

Even with all BMW parts, replacing rotors, pads, sensors, caliper rebuild, brake lines... it wouldn't cost more than $400 USD in parts. Using OE parts instead will at least reduce that by a third if not more. Go indy if you aren't interested in doing it yourself. It's not something a dealer needs to do.
 
Thanks all. The work is done because I needed the car back. But clearly I overpaid here. Just moved to the area and will have to find a local shop for future work I can trust that’s more affordable.

In the US they don't charge according to the actual amount time spent but they charge according to 'book time'. So if the book says it takes 3 hours but they do the work in 30 mins they charge for 3 hours! Maybe I should move to the US and become a mechanic. :rofl:
 
TBH does it not depend on which z4 it is?

I thought the 35is had bigger brakes & cost a fair bit more to get discs / pads changed.

In my mind I'm expecting maybe 3 or 4 hundred for the back - maybe 6 hundred for the front (at an indy).
