Brakes stuck fast!

Washed the car last weekend. Took it for spin afterwards to dry off breaks and used handbrake also to 'clean off' excess water. Out in garage now and no amount of revs will get her to budge!! Help! Ideas people?

I had same problem with the Polo after it had been sitting in the garage for a year. Probably not the best advice, but brute force did it for me.... :(

I wasn't too bothered about the clutch in the Polo, it had been stuck in the garage after its 2nd gear box disintegrated, I only had 1st and 3rd gear left  Had to get it moving to get new 'box and clutch installed :)

I've never used the handbrake in the garage since the rear drums on an old motor seized, it was a wheel off job but the drum had a wear lip and had to be hammered off finally splitting the brake linings off the shoes. Two days of grief

Since the handbrake drums on the Z4 are quite small It's worth trying brute force rocking/drive off, or bite the bullet and strip them.

My rears often seize up, so I don't use the handbrake on the drive anymore; I chock the rear wheel and it's also left in gear.

Id just jack it up and strip them personally.... Its an hour a side taking it slow..... Dont risk your clutch.

inkey$, happened to me too, just as you describe.

Took a few days and I reckon over 100 attempts

Thanks for the responses guys. Never use the handbrake so am going to investigate further when I get a chance as I suspect the drum shoes are getting bad. Managed to get it going though. Tried rocking but no luck. Tried a lot of revs but no luck.

Tried a hammer tapping on the hub itself through the wheel spokes, success! Tip of the day if you have the same issues. Gentle taps to cause vibration and the sticking is released.

Happy again :D
