Brakes - retaining spring

For Z4M brake pads and rotors, realoem specifies that:
"The following recommendation applies to vehicles more than 48 months old: replace retaining spring"
In my case, I should follow the recommendation and replace the respective spring. But I am not sure which part it is. I suspect it may be part#9 in the picture below (clip, p/n 34112227670), but I may be wrong.

If anyone can precisely pinpoint the "retaining spring" part number, please reply.

Definitely part 9 - probably around the £10 mark.

I'd also recommend reconditioning the caliper every couple of years anyway - especially if it's a low mileage car that's sat around for quite a while between runs.

What would that involve, a strip down and general clean up?

If you pay someone to do it, then they'll replace/recondition any part that needs replacing/reconditioning.

At a minimum it would be removal of the calipers and a good brushing to remove surface corrosion and then treating with a rust-inhibiter/converter.

You can go as far as examining/replacing the pistons/seals to ensure they're not corroding (item 10 on the original diagram) - although be careful as BMW have a habit of changing the contents of a 'rebuild' kit so that you get a couple of seals and no piston.

It is Part 9, and you'll see it's a spring at the time you remove it

It isn't a moving part and the spring isn't constantly flexing (much). Your brakes will work OK without this part, so personally, I'd only bother replacing it if it breaks or falls off and you lose it.
