Brakes (Pads and disks)

Hi all,

It's payday tomorrow and I need some new brake pads as mine are apparently just outside the recommended threshold :?

I'd prefer performance over keeping rims clean, but maybe someone how to kill two birds with one stone??

Not looking to break the bank (no pun intended)

Also, how do you know when you need to replace the brake disks? Figure i may as well do both pads and disks at the same time (if needed).

Thanks!

There is a mimimum thickness for the discs. From memory, the rear minimum is 17.4mm (or if they look particularly pitted and scored).

What makes you say the brakes are outside the recommended threshold? How long have the current discs & pads been on the car - age & mileage? Are you getting any noticeable issues - like brake judder? Have you got the pad wear sensor light on? If not I wouldn't bother changing anything!

For information, good practice is to change both discs & pads at the same time - putting new pads in with old discs with a wear lip will affect how the new pads contact the disc surface, and could prematurely knacker your pads.

In terms of performance discs, there is nothing to be gained by fitting fancy rotors (Unless you go for a floating set-up - which I'm assuming you aren't), except aesthetics. I would chuck OEM discs on.

In terms of performance pads, I'm assuming you don't track the car? If you just want a nice fast road pad something like Mintex 1144 or Ferodo DS2500 would be sufficient for fast road use.

Hi check out discs and pads on the MTEC site, had them on all round for a year now very efficient and good value

I've just fitted Brembo discs and red stuff pads for what it is worth. Had the red stuff before and always been impressed with the performance.

I had the MTEC discs last time around and they seemed to rust up really easily.
