Brakes for my 3.0i

Hello

I think i need new front discs & pads and also discs and pads for the rear.

What discs do you recommend for my 2003 3.0i convertible?

i quite like the idea of grooved/drilled discs.

Sorry there just seems to be so many different ones available....
 
A lot of people on here go for EBC Greenstuff I think louisechristie8, but personally I'd go for Pagid pads and OEM discs unless you're driving an M or going postal whenever you take a drive. Check out eurocarparts.com for details and options too. They're usually pretty good.
 
From memory of posts I've seen here there's an issue with excess brake dust residue. Cant remember if its the green or the red but a quick forum search should help out.
 
I have EBC ultimax discs and greenstuff pads - with no complaints - purely a road car though.

There are others on here who have had very different experiences with EBC stuff (mainly the pads)... have a search and a long read :o
 
There was a growing thread on Pistonheads discussing the performance of EBC products past and present. Very polarised opinions with Pagid, Ferrodo and Carbotech (?) being heralded quite highly.

I've just had some Pagid dics and pads fitted, really happy with them and very reasonably priced at £105 all in from Eurocarparts. :thumbsup:
 
I have EBC grooved and drilled(dimpled) discs,on my 05reg 3.0 rdstr,and they look great behind the 18" 108's. i have them front and back,with Redstuff pads. Discs are great,no complaints,but pads are a bit noisy/espcly when cold/and more so on the rear,as they havent bedded in(after 1100mls),due to the rear brakes being in less use.
So,if i were to buy them now,i would have no probs going for same discs,but go for either EBC greenstuff or Pagid pads with them. the ebc are very good ,regards low brakedust output,btw :thumbsup:

p.s Camskill are very well priced for ebc brake discs,etc

As above,CAMSKILL are/were the cheapest i could find. u get grooved or grooved and "dimpled"(as name suggests,deep dimples,rather than holes rt thru,but look v good).
and camskill are very good to order from/no hassle and fairly qk delivery times :D
 
I run EBC Ultimax and greenstuff pads. For me it's the ideal combination of through the wheel looks (having open 108's), brake performance and low dust.

Remember though that all drilled, grooved and slotted rotors by their very nature make more noise than smooth. Mine used to drone like mad even though sold as 'silent' Took 2k to 3k to fully settle down.
 
I got redstuff pads and ultimax grooved/slotted discs on my 3.0i. They do squeal a little from cold and drone under heavy braking but I can't complain about their performance after bedding in. :thumbsup:
 
i went with the pagid in the end. So pagid discs and pads. New for front and rear.
Couldnt stretch to the drilled, just got tax reminder and MOT is due next week :cry:

These should be ok?

What ones did BMW use when new?

My current discs are currently very knackered :o

O jeez.. just realised was i meant to order the sensors aswell? or are these built into the pad im so confused :?
 
the sensors plug into the pads (they are separate) if your brake warning light isn't on, then i believe you can re use the ones you have. If the warning light is on, then you need to replace the sensors. at least thats what Ive heard.

My car is currently running the OEM discs/pads - and they produce so much black dust it almost makes me cry.

I had EBC Redstuff with EBC Slotted and dimpled rotors on my last car - once bedded in, hardly noticed any squeeking, slotted rotors keep the pads clean and dust free, and i did notice much better stopping power. I will definetly be changing my Z to this same setup next time i need to change the pads/discs.
 
Pagid are superb :thumbsup:

The sensors will come on when you have quite a lot left of the pad. Many people will disconnect them for this reason and rely on a visual inspection as better. It can be quite annoying having the brake sensor light on the dash when you know you have a couple of thousand more miles to go with the pads.
Im not sure if the pagid pads have the abilty to have the sensors plugged into them :? .

What was the total cost and which pads / discs did you get?
