Brakes Failing

Had my zed MOTed last week, sailed through with no advisories. Over the last 3 days ive noticed the brakes acting a bit strangely. As im slowing down on the brake approaching a junction/lights/standing traffic the brakes initially work as normal but as i try to press the pedal a bit more to come to a standstill the pedal wont move any further leaving me moving but needing to stop. When I release the pedal for a few seconds then depress again it repeats the same process. If i have to brake more sharply they seem to work fine. Anyone else had this or any idea what the problem could be?

When did you last get the brake fluid changed? Any who did it?

Could be air in the system which is worth ruling out first

Might be a dodgy servo. Air in the system would make them spongy.

Hi Hopz,
Ive only owned the car 12 months, so first mot under my ownership and only covered 1600 miles in that 12 month period so wasnt planning on getting it serviced as it was done as part of the deal when i bought it. can air get in at any time because its been fine for 12 months up until 3 days ago, is it a straight forward operation to bleed as i dont have ramp if i need to get underneath

Failed seal on master cylinder. Air in the system gives spongy brakes but if you pedal is going right down to the floor and you can release and repeat it's more likely a master cylinder problem. That is of course assuming you are not just pumping brake fluid out onto the tarmac!

On a servo theme, if you are saying you are intermittently getting a solid pedal but no brake action it's worth checking for servo vacuum pipe leaks and the servo non-return check valve. It could be a cheap fix .
