Brakes Brakes Brakes

Had a both job of painted calipers done a few months ago by a company called poshwash London. Not only did they rip me off, they did a pathetic job spraying the calipers on the car.

As such, all 4 pads were contaminated, handbrake shoes fell apart and rear discs were scored.

All in all £511 bill not happy :headbang:

But safety is safety!

Why would their paint job cause scoring of the discs and the pads to fall off? Any contamination on the brakes would be heated off during the first good heat cycle - it wouldn't result in scoring of the discs and certainly wouldn't result in the pads falling off! It sounds to me like your brakes are pretty old! Not trying to sound like a dick that's just what it sounds like from the information in your post....

You don't sound like a d*** at all and you're probably right about the discs and pads being old. The car has covered 45k from new but I don't see any of these parts having been changed previously so it was probably their time anyway..

The pads had about 3mm on them apparently but the handbrake was fine before the calipers were sprayed and the spring clips etc would not have been siezed sized either.

Anywho good to have all fresh breaks :D

Unless they took the discs off the handbrake shoes won't have been touched.

Feel you pain though. It's the sort of job anybody can do, so for a professional outfit to cock it up must be shoddy

Blimey on similar milage here and on my third set of Discs. :o :D

Yeah it's always a pain when you get a bill for a job you could've done yourself! I'm monitoring my brakes periodically for that exact reason - I've got my eye on some nice MTecs and Mintex 1144 pads - should be perfect :D

I'm not sure I get this. If they replaced all your brakes and they don't work correctly then why not just go back under warranty and have them do it right? You can't fix the price that was way too much, but that's just down to experience.

If they fitted new disks then the handbrake pads would have needed adjusting and bedding in. If they 'fell apart' then they needed replacing too or assembling correctly (not enough info posted to fully understand)

Spray painting the calipers would not cause the handbrake to seize.

cj10jeeper, they did not replace them at all, just painted them ...

I'm just confused then. I don't see anyone could even get ripped off that much to just spray calipers.

Agreed on all points above.

Nothing particularly wrong with painting the brakes on the car either. Have known people to spray up discs so the centers are silver coated and the outer part of the disc where you see the vanes, getting paint all over the discs. A quick blast and all was well again.

I am reading this as the bill was for replacing the parts, not for the painting

Yes thats the replacement parts and labour bill £511 for:

All pads
2 discs
handbrake shoes

Thanks for the clarification that the price paid was for replacement parts and painting I wasn't confused (PVR it was you confused :poke:)

Expensive for the work compared to folks who do such themselves, but not outside reasonable London rates including the painting

Referring back to my earlier post why do you not go back to them and get the job rectified (painting fixed, handbrake adjusted, etc.) under warranty if you're not satisfied with it? Why leave it several months and make the post out of the blue?

BTW - don't forget if you paid on cc under S75 they are liable for the work too if the garage won't fix it, although the passage of time may make it a little trickier, depending on how many months you've left it)

cj10jeeper - I *think* what he's saying is this:

He went to a company to get his EXISTING discs and calipers painted up.
He got the car back from them, and then the handbrake shoes fell apart, the discs were scored and all 4 pads were contaminated.

He's then had to fork out an ADDITIONAL £511 to someone to replace the parts.

(eg, he believes the company that painted his stuff did such a poor job with his car that they ruined his braking system so badly, he needed to get them replaced for safety).

At least.. that's how *I* read it lol
