Brake whistle

Hi,

Whenever I brake, there is a whistling sound coming from the brakes. Before I take it to the stealers to get it checked out, is it the brakes that need replacing or the discs or both? Yikes!! :headbang:

Driving a Z4MC by the way.

Thanks.

There's usually nothing wrong mechanically with squealing brakes, it's just really annoying. There's various products that are applied to backing plates and shims that often help reduce squealing. In some cases, it can be very hard to eliminate.

If it's more of a scraping or grinding noise, that can be much more serious. Good luck!

Squeeling brakes generally comes when you have new pads and they have not bedded in yet, if they are gone i.e. metal on metal or the disc has been waring unevenly and you get little notches in the disc. Skimming the brake disc is a lot cheaper than replacing them
