Brake upgrade (yet again)

Ok, I know this is technically whuppin that dead horse but I searched a little and didn't really come up with any definite maybes. So here goes nothing....

A bit o history...
Today I had my oil changed and the multi-inspection done by the dealer (what can I say I was too lazy atm to do it myself). They reminded me that my brakes are low an (suprised they guestimated) they said I have roughly 500 miles left on the front pads depending on my driving style. We'll just carry the 2 divide by 5 and say with my driving i'd be lucky to get 250 before the light comes on. So at any rate, they quoted a hell of a lot for pads/rotors on just the fronts.

So the meat an potatoes....
It's been in the back of my head to upgrade the brakes at any rate...well pads and rotors. So I reckon my question is simple, I want performance pads/rotors (better than OEM)....not necessarily track pads, but some damn good stopping pads/rotors that preferably will be low dust and last a long time (I know, asking for the world here) and best bang for the buck. Should I get slotted rotors or not? I have an 03 3.0i w/ sport package 18 inch wheels.

On a side note, they say the fronts have 500 miles left (in the yellow block) but yet the rear brakes were good to go in the green block? I know the brakes don't wear that evenly between front and back...but to be that different that the rears aren't close to needing to be changed? If/when I do upgrade should I do all four brakes?

Awww a day an no replys? I've decided in light of my upcoming trip (and lack of funds) that I'm going to just replace the pads with OEM pads for the trip and when I get back I'll get upgraded pads/rotors installed.

Depends how you drive really, the standard brakes are pretty good really, and maybe the only decent upgrade is to change the pads for something that produces less dust, as you said.

Yeah I drive spirited, and might throw in an autocross every now and then. Can anyone tell me where zeckhausen will ship from? Those axxis deluxe pads are a decent bit cheaper than oem bmw pads, but I need em here by Friday...
*edit* Nevermind I registered. Next day air is a whopping 68 bucks for me with the next soonest date the 28th (day I wanted to leave). Ah well I'll just bite the bullet I guess and go get OEM pads.

Couldn't agree more.

I need to start taking my own advice though, I have OEM pads on the SLK and filthy black brake-dust encrusted wheels :)

Stoptech makes slotted, drilled or slotted&drilled direct replacement rotors for the Z4.

As for brake pads, I recommend Axxis Deluxe...low dust and bite well. Lastly, if you want a better brake feel, throw in some steel lines.

The Axis Deluxe Ceramic pads are VERY good. I have been using them for about five months.. NO DUST, and much better breaking power than the OEM pads.. esp. after you heat them up some.

Might be blessing in disguise then. Given who the merchant was. :fuelfire:

Zeckhausen carries both Stoptech products and Axxis brake pads. Awesome customer service.

Yeah due to the timeframe of me wanting them I am going to put on some Raybestos (my boss recommended them). They will most likely stay on for about 3k miles give or take (unless they just perform like crap) and then I'll get some slotted or drilled rotors and the Axxis deluxe pads from Zeckhausen. What brake fluid should I get in the mean time for bleeding brakes purposes. Er will I need some you think? My boss is going to help me change em and he's done lots of brakes, but i'm unsure if I'd need fluid to top off. Is it safe to mix brake fluid brands? Is there any way to find out when the fluid was changed? (I'll call BMW in the morning)
I did a quick search on the forum and saw that if I hit the clock button it'll tell me when the brake fluid is to be changed....but mine doesn't do anything like that.
