Brake Squeal\Screech

My front brakes make and aweful squeal at low speeds its very embarassing. I've tried putting copper grease on the back of the pads but this made no difference.

I've spoken to BMW who say this isn't covered by my AUC warrenty.

As far as I can tell the disks and pads are bout 1 year old.

Any ideas, should I just replace the pads and see if this sorts it?

Car is a 2006 Copue Sport

I had a similar problem, I replaced the pads and it resolved it. Although people thought copper grease would have fixed it.

Thanks. I've ordered a set of EBC red stuff pads. Hopefully that'll sort it and help reduce the brake dust.

Is it possible for brakes not to be bedded-in properly if it's never been done (i.e. the accelerate to 60mph, brake frimly to 10-15mph, and repeat 8 to 10 times) - even after 4 months (my car) or a year (Neilw's car) ?

What are your discs like? Sometimes when the old pads have bedded in they leave marks on the discs themselves, do they have any notches? When you replace the pads they are flat and dont fit into the same groove as the old ones so they squeal. Squealing can be sorted by skimming the discs, where you have them put on a lathe and take a small amount off the surface to make them flat again.

Happened on a friends Ferrari... very embarrassing... and the discs are very expensive so had them skimmed and sorted the problem.

If you bed them in like described above you are just wasting your pads.

The disks look ok, I think they're fairly new. Probably the same age as the pads. I'll have a good look once I get the wheels off.

Hopefully the person who had the car before put some budget pads on it and new pads will sort it.
