Brake sensor light won't go off

Fairly sure that if you disconnect the sensor and it will illuminate the warning light – only thinking that when I disconnected the ABS one by mistake it lit that one up. Not sure it actually earths on the disk? I thought it did before changing it but seeing as how it did not go off when I unplugged it it can't do?

Would imagine BMW have them in stock and it honestly is very easy to change, especially the front one.

The pictorial walk through on changing the rear brake sensor is brilliant. Instinct told me that the main connector was just behind the panel forward of the rear offside wheel. But you know the feeling, should I shouldn't I take those 3 bolts out. What else will I find behind there and will the bolts fail when you try to unscrew them etc etc. Don't get me wrong, I'm not afraid to tackle anything mechanical, but bodywork bits - I always end up with clips and bits and bobs left over. It's pretty hostile in that area so anything could be happening just behind that panel. But thanks to the artical and a deep breath, the problem has been fixed and that irritating light on the dashboard is now at rest and so am I. Thanks again for the artical and picy's

I've done my rear pads today, quick question as I too couldn't trace the plug end, will I need to undo the 2 bolts to access the pads again to fit the sensor end, or can I force it into the slot in the pad ?

'Force' is never a good technique. The sensor fits into a U shape cutout in the edge of the pad and is secured by a matching spring clip. Easy enough tto simply push back in with a pair of pointed nose pliers. If the spring is missing it won't stay in place.

Will give it a go, hope it just slots in without having to undo the bolts again. Force wasn't the best word to use, more gently persuade lol.

I know this is an old thread, but I have just had all my discs and pads replaced on my 2004 2.5 Z4 roadster. I had the fronts replaced (including the sensor) last month at my local garage but the light didn't go out. The rears were worn to the sensor as well so I had them done today, but the light still stayed on. I drove around for a while to give it a chance to reset, but no joy. I could find no reset procedure on this forum, but a search led me to the comprehensive Wiki on Bimmerfest for the 3 series E46, which I reckoned would share a lot of DNA with the Z4. The procedure on this model is to turn the key on for 30 seconds without starting the engine to reset the light. Starting the engine immediately and driving around does not do it.
I tried this and it worked, so if you have this light on with no obvious problem it is worth a go.

Thanks for sharing. Did you turn it off again after 30 sec or did you just start it from the ON position?

I turned the key off once I saw the light go out, and then I started the car to check it didn't come back - it was OK.
