Brake Rotor removal

Morning

Got new brake rotors to put on the 3.0Si. Got the replacement 325mm rotors for the fronts and the standard size for the rears.

Might seem like a silly thing to ask before I begin but can the front rotors be slid in and out and refitted without removing the calliper holding bracket?

Obviously the calliper needs to come off but last time I had them off one of the large bolts holding the calliper holding bracket was in bad shape and feel its going to give me some trouble, so not having to remove the bracket would be great...

I am pretty certain the calliper retaining bracket has to be removed to remove the brake discs. Best of luck dealing with the dodgey bolt, if you get it out and decide to replace it the part number is 34203414763.
 
Don't think so, not with the size. When I did mine, I removed the carrier.
Use some penetrating fluid overnight or something. Same on the brake disc retaining bolt. Give it a tap with a hammer as well, helps crack it free if its become slightly fused on.
 
The carrier has to come off, I did a how-to video a few years ago which has the torque figures for re-fitting.

As Kis says the hub screw can stick and be rounded out very easily (as one of mine did :x ), if the worse happens this guys tip using a hex key and punch works a treat :thumbsup:

The good new was you don’t need to remove the front calliper brackets to get the front discs on and off :D

The rears you do. Took about 35min per corner :)

So fronts were fine, but rears required the removal of the carrier? Seems like it should be the other way round? Lol. Good to know tho! :thumbsup:
