Brake question.....

I'm planning to do a caliper refurb and was wondering, when you disconnect the brake lines from the caliper, do you need clamp the end of the brake line off to prevent brake fluid leaking? Or is it okay to just leave it unclamped? Thanks!

Yea clamp it otherwise all your fluid will leak out

You can use mole grips or similar

Yes it's important not to drain the ABS unit. You can have problems repriming . If you use mole grips use a protective material to stop damage to the flexibles

The Old trick was to also wedge the brake peddle with some wood or similar so that there was pressure on the lines so that air could not enter back into the lines.

Would mole grips or similar damage the brake hose? Is there something you could screw on the end of the hose to act as a temporary cap?

I use one of these

Just not keen on having mole grips on even with a protective material, if there is a cap/plug alternative that would be ideal. Reason being I may send the calipers of for refurb which could take 2/3 days.

Rebleed system too to prevent air trapped and a spongey pedal

Definitely planning to do this, from googling seems like there will be very little pressure therefore fluid will trickle. Probably going to use a rubber plug in that case, will update once done so useful if anyone else also has an issue with clamping brake hoses. Cheers
