Brake problem

Well Mr. Z was taken away this morning on the back of a truck. The brake caliper on the passenger side front would not release. Came back after a short journey with a foul smell of burning and the alloy wheel was red hot! Anyone experienced similar problems? I have just over 70k miles on the car. The really strange thing is my wife's car is currently in the garage with the same issue!! Could it be local road conditions?

The n/s calliper sticks a bit on ours, gives that wheel wobble type feel, it's done around 40k, it is one of my jobs to sort, looks like I shouldnt keep putting it off. So don't think it's local road conditions, maybe just one of those jobs that need occasional maintainance that's not covered on a service ??
