Brake pressure varies

I've noticed that when braking the level of pressure to the brakes varies with the same pressure on the peddle.

Sometimes I brake and its soft and progressive, other times it's hard and really stops the car.

Initially i thought it was down to my speed, but it seems to do it at varying speeds too.

Anyone else had this? Any ideas?

its a feature. mine used to do this and its some sort of pre charging of the brakes that gets the brakes ready. its annoying to say the least.

Brake Pre-tensioning (primes the brakes if you snap off the accelerator)

Seems an awful system to adjust the pressure depending on the driving you're doing. It should've the same from the peddle, I Can adjust pressure to suit.

There are a lot of bends on my commute and it seems to effect it a lot. When I come into a corner the brakes just jab on when I need just a little pressure.

Snap off throttle = greater brake pressure (it assumes you're having some kind of emergency). Rain = brakes primed (simple safety feature). It's a safety thing overall from what I can see (feel), doesn't cause me any real issues but mine's not driven daily so realise it might be different for others.

My Jag XF does this stuff. Clever safety feature, but if you lift off and instantly cover (touch enough to activate the brake light switch) the brake pedal it preloads the system and can even partially apply the brakes. Can give passengers an unexpected jolt

It is really one of the worst features of the car. I love heel toeing and I find it provides such poor feedback that it's almost forcing me to order a big brake kit.

A BBK doesn't remove the feature sadly. I wonder if there is a way to code it out?

I find it a bit weird, to the extent that I warn other people about it if they drive the car, but it's ok once you get used to it.

i barely notice it tbh.....

Me neither. Generally when I lift off quickly it's because I need to brake quickly, so I've gotten used to it. It happens more if your accelerating hard and then lift off sharply. At the risk of sounding critical - which I am not, everyone is different - it could be driving style related for those experiencing it more and hating it ?

It's going from a non-M which accentuates it for me. The non-M brakes aren't terrible, but they barely do anything in the first couple of inches of travel.

Like I say, it's mainly when just scrubbing a tiny bit of speed around tight corners. I played with it today, no cars behind, and still couldn't get it to always do it.

My main concern was something could have been wrong, now I know it's standard, I can live with it!

I did the BMW trackday at Donington Park in September and it pi $$ ed it down most of the day. I didn't notice this "feature" at all and was able to heel/toe and modulate the brakes all through the day and I covered 130+ miles on track.
