Brake Pipes

Anyone else had their brake pipes replaced, my car is in for some suspension work and when they stripped it down they said the brake pipes were corroded enough that they would be an issue for the next MOT and probably worth replacing while they were down there. Not given them the go ahead yet and had a quick search but no results showed up on here. Have any of you guys had corroded brake pipes replaced, any suggestion on cost?

Had a Google and seemed to be quite common on E46 three series so maybe something to look out for as our Zs get older. Parts for the E46 were only £30 or so but the labour ran well into three figures from what I can find though not sure the Z would be as easy to get to if they run over the fuel tank like in the E46.
 
And as a P.S. do you think the extended warranty will pay for the pipe replacement or would that be wear and tear?

Think this might be termed fair 'wear and tear' BUT depends on the age of you vehicle/mileage etc? I would certtainly want to have a look at the corrosion as it could be just road grime and muck and a bit of a try on by the garage - depends how well you know them of course.
 
They haven't called back since I mentioned that they were the ones who did my MOT a few months back and didn't mention it as something that would need attention next time lol, they are reasonably trustworthy though. We have had a few months of salt on the roads and plenty of snow up here though so it wouldn't be a huge surprise if there was some corrosion, might just be something you can rub down and paint though maybe safer to replace if the parts are only £30 or so. 2003 car on 50k miles.
 
Seven years of salted Scottish roads so maybe they do need replacing! Would agree - certainly much better to replace and perhaps consider steel braided for the relevant flexible sections to the calipers. I've used Goodridge hoses before and whilst they don't list the current Z4 range in their catologue if you ring them they will certainly quote you - and you can select a coloured covering.

For future reference it looks like the pipes replacing and a few hours labour to drop the fuel tank will be £240 or so from the dealer. Will be asking to see the parts they take off but guess copper isn't the strongest thing once it starts to corrode so better to do it as preventative maintenance.

Although only use the 'covered' hoses on a road vehicle - unless you're anal about wanting to clear muck from the woven stainless steel sheath.

I had all my brake, fuel & hydraulic suspension pipes replaced on an e34 M5 about 8 years ago and the dealer quoted a 12 hour job - at £120/hour - plus £190 parts.
I went to an independent instead who quoted £500 for the same job - and was very sorry when it took him almost a week to do it, and still left me with tractor suspension as he couldn't reset the rear ride height.
