Brake Pipe Corroded & Brake Hose

Hi All,

Advisory on my latest MOT was (2003 Z4 2.5i Convertible):

"Brake Hose slightly deteriorated (both sides front)"
and
"Brake pipe corroded, covered in grease or other material (both sides rear and both front to rear)"

Apparently the brake pipe doesn't look good and needs attending

Can anyone recommend somewhere I can go to fix this? I am based in Farnborough (GU14)

I think I’m going to get that advisory in the next year or two… will happen to all Zeds eventually.

If you’re in Farnborough, it classed as Hampshire? There’s Ross at RBM in Hook, Hampshire who isn’t too far away. Well known among the Z4 crowd. Does good work. Wouldn’t take my car anywhere else, well unless, its me doing the work myself.
 
My 2nd Z4 (2006 car) had the advisory for corroded rear brake pipes 2 years running, so I got them replaced in copper/kunifer in 2016.

The 2 rear pipes pass under the floor beneath the passenger seat in a plastic cover that ends in front of the passenger side rear wheel, but road debris tends to build up around the end of the cover and absorb moisture hence the corrosion.

OE BMW pipes are pre-shaped so getting the driver's side one across the car on the rear bulkhead means the fuel tank has to be dropped, whereas copper can be threaded through the support brackets and shaped on the other side of the brackets.

Had advisories last year on rear nearside brake pipes corrosion, it was the fixed pipe between the two flex pipes on nearside. Replaced those with stainless braided flexi pipes all round, both rears and the fronts. The fixed pipes running from front to rear inside the plastic cover were cleaned up to reveal they were in good condition, painted those when cleaned up.
