Hi all,

Please excuse my lack of knowldge and being new to BW,Z4 and am 24. I have to replace my discs and pads at the front and want to know.... do I have to replace the brake sensor at the same time which is on driver side front I believe??

I have bought my discs and pads (total approx £100) from http://www.brakesint.co.uk (the 300x22 discs) and will get them fitted outside BMW as I am to stubborn to pay bmw to do it which is obviously more expensive (£340 to replace and fit)!! but need to know do i need to get a sensor also to be fitted or should I cancel my order and get BMW to replace the discs/pads

Own a 04 plate 3.0 z4

Many Thanks

The sensor cable just clips in, but I got new ones from ECP for about £12 for both iirc.

I got my consumables from ECP for my 3.0i (front discs/pads, rear discs/pads + sensor cables front and back), for £225 ish. It was the rear discs that made the price go up alot as they are fairly rare, maybe only found on Z4.

Don't know what brand of pattern/aftermarket/OE discs & pads you're buying (do you?). The 'brakesint' online catalogue says 'WEAR SENSOR REQUIRED' for their pads, so I'd assume you'll need a sensor?

Just checked further, and the only disc available from them for your application is made by 'BremTech' - who seem to be the same company as 'Brakes International', so it looks like it's their 'own brand'. I've got no experience of them, so can't make any informed judgement on their suitability. Pads could be Textar, but the site just says 'OE German Pads' and their info page says they get a lot of 'OE' stuff from 'Roulunds' which is Danish, so I can't be sure.

OE parts from EuroCarParts are about £140 all in, so these Brakes International ones seem a good bit cheaper.

Genuine parts from BMW would probably be £250 plus an hour's fitting, so £340 sounds about right for them.

You don't have to replace the brake sensors. As long as they haven't been eaten thru, you're ok. Save some cash and go out to eat instead of paying 20 dollars/pounds on still-good sensors.

Just my opinion.

If you waited untill the dash light came on the replace them then you will need new sensors, if you are doing it before then the sensors will be fine.
They are made from fairly brittle plastic so make sure you dont snap them when removing them, easy and cheap to replace if you do.
Just fit the discs and pads yourself the fronts are really easy (easier than the backs) and should take no longer than half hour a side.
