Hello everyone,

The time has come to change the brake pads on my 3.0SI.

Any advice on which brand to buy or to avoid please?

Thanks,

Strav

I replaced front and rear with Akebono Euro Ceramic pads, quiet, low dust and great stopping power. So nice to have clean wheels. Got mine from Tire Rack.

I bought textar epads for the front. One issue I had though was the protective coating on the metal backing wore through and started rusting. Not such a worry at first but this was on the lugs/ears of the pad that slot into the caliper, it was sufficient enough to stop the pads moving freely and caused a judder at low speed similar to a warped disc.

Taking the pads out, clean up the lugs/ears with a file and a bit of copper grease and all is fine again

The pads themselves don't produce much dust which is a bonus but they do lack feel though, not enough for me to replace them.

Thanks for the input everyone.

Bit odd, but the brake pad indicator light has turned itself off today. I inspected the pads all round and there is plenty of material still on them.

Probably a faulty sensor or some containment in it. Anyone else experience similar before?

Cheers,

Strav

Its possible there is a faulty sensor somewhere - though, do be aware that the outside pad can often look ok while the inside is knackered due to the single piston, sliding caliper design of most BMWs.

if you havent already, get the wheels off and give them a good look at the inside pad.
