Brake pad woes

Changing front pads on the car today, got the wheel off and split the caliper okay but the rubber piston seal was gone,is this a hard job and is it possible without splitting the hoses and pipes etc.Picking the parts up tomorrow £38.

It's not too hard, most of the work is accessing, disassembly and bleeding. I suppose it might be possible to do this with the hose attached, but there's little point, you need to bleed everything anyway, and getting the piston out could be problematic. Much easier to disconnect and work on a bench. A compressed air supply is extremely useful.

thanks for that havent done brakes for over 10 years, was hoping do do it in situ but will probably be more awkward than the worth of it,will take the hose off and do it in a vice give both calipers a good clean up,the bleeding is what I wanted to avoid as its usually a 2 man job.

Get yourself a Gunson Ezi Bleed that works off the air inside a spare wheel. You don't even need to fill the Ezi Bleed bottle with brake fluid provided you check that there's still fluid in the cars reservoir. It's a doddle to do on your own with this.

Discs calipers and pads now off,a good clean up tomorrow, replace the rubber boot and reassemble on the car for another 40000 miles.

Rubber boot replced, does need removal of piston (quite a job with a pliers due to the hydraulic suction) repainted, waiting for rain and gales to subside before reassembley. Will probably flush new fluid throughout all the pipes once its back together too.

All back together now ebc pads were a very tight fit on the caliper so had to file them a bit,not too impressed with that but they are working better albeit with a little sqealing at low speed.
