Brake pad warning light

I knew my front brake pads were in need of replacement and they're currently on order through the group brake deal but I am awaiting EBC forging some Ultimax discs as apparently none are in stock. Anyway as a result I am curious to know how many miles I should expect now the warning light has come on? Furthermore how is this reset? Is a dealer reset and a replacement sensor required or will I just have to replace the sensor or even can I get away with not replacing the sensor?

Well a new sensor for the front is on order along with the brakes. I don't suppose I need to touch the rear sensor as the rear brakes are fine?
