Brake Pad Light

Hey, my breaks have been squeaking a lot for the last 2 months... i had checked the pads myself (didn't take them out though) and the seemed fine so i brought my car into one of those "tyre fitting / wheel alignment / brake / exhaust" quick fits... they jacked it up on one of their machines and brought me around the car with a torch. They indicated that all were in perfect condition and that maybe the squeaking was a result of a stone or some other small object which was nested between the breaks.

The squeaking stopped about 4 weeks ago... however the yellow Brake Pad Light is now showing on my dash. I really don't think i need new pads as their is loads left on all 4... can anyone else think what it might be. I have it booked in at the weekend however i am curious to see if any of you guys have ever experienced anything similar, thanks in advance...

usually when your brake inducation light comes on you would need to replace your pads, the only other and pretty unlikely thing is that your sensor is damaged.

squeaking is fairly normal if you have alot of brake dust stuck around your brakes, something that is annoying but i wouldnt worry about.
probably best to have it checked out and see what happend, especially if there is plenty of meat left on all of the pads

Is it the pad material that has 'meat' left or is it the holder that you are looking at?
Common fault as its difficult sometimes to see the pad.
For the sensor to come on especially after the squealing suggests that the pads are down. The other alternative is its a coincidence and a sensor wire is damaged.

perhaps should just change the sensor just to get that light off. the part itself isn't very expensive. maybe $30 USD.

should also check your pads more closely as sometimes pads will wear unevenly. meaning the part of the pad you CAN see looks "meaty", but the bottom part of the pad that you can only see after taking off the caliper, is down to the shims ... might be rare, but i've seen it before.

worse case scenario, just change everything to be safe. they are afterall, your brakes
